about

Having signed to AnalogueTrash towards the end of 2022 and hot on the heels of her stunning self-released Power Weakness EP and Blackpool single, Sandi Glowe releases her label debut, Where the Light Goes.

The 25-year-old Italian singer, songwriter and guitarist is inspired by artists as diverse as Caroline Polachek, Kate Bush, Cigarettes After Sex, John Frusciante and Radiohead.

Sandi recently spent several years in Manchester in the UK, prompting her to expand her creative horizons and approaches to music. Shifting and developing from bedroom production and looping melancholic guitar melodies to working in partnership with producers has led to the development of Sandi's original and always-evolving sound which ranges from synth and art pop to slowcore and dream pop.

She has since returned to Rome to pursue a career in neuroscience research, but maintains her personal and musical connection with Manchester, returning there to record her music.

Speaking about the complex and intertwining themes of Where the Light Goes, Sandi says, 'Once again, I take the listener by the hand and lead them into a world of oxymorons, duality, hope and fear, light and darkness.'

For Sandi, the lyrics are intentionally structured to remind the listener that even in the darkest hours, the light is never far away. 'The verses are scenarios inspired by my dreams: confusing, haunting, and full of characters that speak about my past and my deepest fears. The choruses represent an antithesis of the evoked despair of the verses, providing a message of hope and trust in following your own path, in following the light that will lead you in the right direction.'

She continues, 'The song builds up to a moment of tension in the last chorus where the implied imagery suggests scenarios of battle, of fight or flight, and of mistrust. That comes to an end once again with the main message of the song: let us go where the light was, let us go back to the right track. I see music as something that adapts to different contexts, different windows in time, and different interpretations. The listener might relate because of their personal and individual journey, or they might see it as a portrait of the state of the world right now - either interpretation can be true.'

Musically, the track highlights Sandi's innate knack for drawing disparate threads of sound into a richly woven and vivid tapestry of shades and moods. Gothic and dreampop tones dominate the arrangement, while Sandi's vocal brings an intimate folk-infused quality to Where the Light Goes that highlights the deeply personal nature of the lyrics.

Where the Light Goes is released on the 3rd of February via AnalogueTrash and will be available to stream and download on all major platforms. The track will also feature on the Sandi Glowe's upcoming EP entitled is it the past that affects my will?, due for release later this year.
